Orthodontics

If you are not familiar with orthodontic dentistry, we would like to provide you with some information that may help you to differentiate the services that we provide here at Pendleton Orthodontics compared to those offered by regular dental practices. Let us begin by saying how proud and pleased we are to provide high quality orthodontic treatment to patients from throughout the Leander, TX, area, and how happy we would be to welcome you to our patient family!

Put very simply, orthodontics focuses on procedures that help to correct the positioning of the patient’s teeth and jaws. If you have crooked teeth or a bite that is out of alignment, it can lead to other issues, such as headaches and neck pain, for example. Teeth that are crooked are often harder to clean, making you more susceptible to forming tooth decay. And, of course, a straighter smile is more attractive than a crooked one!

ARE YOU A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR ORTHODONTICS?

The best way to determine whether you would benefit from orthodontic treatment is to visit us here at Pendleton Orthodontics. During your appointment, Dr. Pendleton can review your dental history and perform an oral exam to determine which treatments, if any, would help you achieve the best oral health possible.

What follows are some conditions that we commonly treat in our patients:

  • Crowded or crooked teeth– If you have crowded or crooked teeth, it can lead to a variety of other issues and make it harder to care for them properly.
  • “Buck” teeth – This is another term for upper front teeth that protrude over the front lower teeth.
  • Under bite – Patients with an under bite have front lower teeth that protrude out beyond the front upper teeth.
  • Open bite – If you have open space between your teeth when you bite together, you have an open bite.
  • Cross bite – If you have lower teeth which are on the outside of your upper teeth when you bite down, this is known as a “cross bite.” This can lead to severe wear of those teeth, gum recession, and bone loss which ultimately leads to tooth loss.
  • Spacing– Spacing or gaps between teeth can lead to more food getting trapped in between teeth which can lead to more dental work, more lost teeth, and other problems.
